Courts may order a drug and alcohol assessment to: Determine if you have a drug or alcohol addiction. The purpose of this evaluation is to assess the severity of the substance use and to detect any co-occurring disorders (medical or psychiatric). We evaluate personal history, work history, attitude, emotional stability, criminal history and alcohol/drug use through personal interview and assessment tools. Your counselor will discuss the results of the evaluation with you, and based on the findings, recommend a course of action.
